GIZMO

Archos is a French company best known for producing what it calls internet media tablets. These are pocket-sized gizmos with a screen pretty much the size of the entire gadget. They are multimedia computers designed to allow you to watch movies, listen to music and get on the internet on the move.

A cruel conclusion would be that it is therefore an iPhone without a phone, but it does have some striking points of difference. The Archos 5 (5 inch screen model) goes up to 250GB, and the seven inch Archos 7 as much as 320MB, and they play a wide range of formats. Like Apple products, it also looks cool as you like. iPhone devotees won’t need one but those who want to buy a plain old boring phone to make their calls and have something more zippy for portable movies may be tempted. www.archos.com lists a number of stores and distributors in Australia who will sell it, with prices likely to be around A$700.
