BUSINESS JOURNALISM
Chris has been a business and financial journalist for almost 20 years and has a strong contact base across all areas of business, economics, banking and capital markets in the Asia Pacific region, Australia and the Middle East. He has published several thousand articles during his career, and in most months is published on four continents.
OTHER JOURNALISM
Chris writes frequently on travel, exploration and off-beat themes. Examples include, for Discovery Channel Magazine, interviews with the only man alive who has been to the deepest point in the world’s oceans, with a family who are attempting to carve an entire South Dakota mountain into a 500-foot statue of Crazy Horse, and with men who have walked on the moon; accounts of a little-known Nabatean historical site in the Saudi Arabian desert, of a gas crater in Turkmenistan that has been on fire for more than 40 years, and of a soon-to-be-breached lake three kilometres under Antarctica that has been untouched since before human evolution. For Qantas The Australian Way, examples include interviews with the two remaining able-bodied survivors of the Sandakan prisoner of war camp, and with the Australian artist who builds the world’s largest sculptures; and accounts of a perfect Balinese wreck dive, the oddity of tourism on the North Korean border, how Arundhati Roy’s writing meshes with modern Kerala tourism, panda sanctuaries and Three Gorges tourism post the dam in China, and climbing Mt Kinabalu.
Non-financial features in the Australian Financial Review have included the politics of engagement with Burma, and the treatment of migrant workers in Singapore.
MARKET RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY
Chris provides services to consultancy groups ranging from short opinion pieces to detailed research reports, the longest of which have involved six months of work and produced publications several hundred pages long featuring completely new proprietary data.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Chris increasingly provides photography to go with his articles, particularly outside of business journalism. His photographs have accompanied many of his articles for Discovery Channel Magazine, Qantas The Australian Way and Euromoney, including work in Turkey, Malaysia, Turkmenistan, India, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Tajikistan and China; he has also appeared in the online editions of The Los Angeles Times and The Guardian.
